About Cheryl Tiu


Cheryl Tiu (張美鈴 Zhang Mei Ling) is a lifestyle journalist, content creator, culinary consultant, fine dining specialist and entrepreneur based in between Miami, and Southeast Asia.

She founded the events and consultancy platform Cross Cultures, which promotes the exchange of cultures through food, working with chefs from Michelin-starred and World’s 50 Best restaurants, as well as private kitchens and food movements. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cross Cultures became a venue for chefs to share easy-to-make quarantine recipes at home, in a series entitled #HomeCookingTogether.

She also started Cross Cultures Conversations a series spotlighting women in the F&B ecosystem who are making, creating and doing, leading the way and helping better the world. She also just started Filipino Miami, to spotlight and share Filipino flavors, talent and culture in Miami.

She is the co-founder of Proclamation Gin, a small batch gin from the Philippines, made from the finest sampaguita flowers handpicked by women farmers.

She is a Tastehunter for the World’s 50 Best Restaurants and World’s 50 Best Bars, and is a regular contributor to Forbes USA and Philippine Star. 

Other bylines include: CNN Travel, The Infatuation, Zagat Stories, Singapore Tatler, Wine Traveler, South China Morning Post, Michelin Singapore, INK Publishing’s in-flight magazines Smile (Cebu Pacific) and +852 (Hong Kong Airlines).

Cheryl authored the first ever Wallpaper* City Guide for Manila, published by the UK-based Phaidon Press, shortly before receiving a “Best City Nomination” for the Wallpaper* Design Awards. Previously, she was publisher and deputy editor/ editor at large of Lifestyle Asia for 12 years, and was responsible for maintaining the luxury magazine’s No. 1 position and for organizing the Royal Gala with the Queen Mother of Bhutan, among others.

She hosted Fox Life Asia’s newest food television show, “Taste Travels,” was a judge/ panelist on Singapore’s largest broadcaster Mediacorp’s TV show, “Eat List Star, ” and showcased the Philippines on television as a host on CNN International’s CNNGo: Manila.

She won the Top Food Influencer Award at Influence Asia 2017, Asia’s largest social media awards show. She has been an Asia Tatler Generation T awardee, “the definitive list of young leaders shaping Asia’s future” for three years in a row (2016, 2017, 2018). She has been named one of Asia’s Most Influential: Tastemakers 2021 by Asia Tatler. She was also the recipient of the  Global Pinoy award from Mega Magazine in 2017 for her work as a Multi-platform Media Practitioner.

She has served on the judging panel of the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards, the Katha Awards at Manila FAME, and most recently in Miami, was a guest judge at the Easterseals 30th Festival of Chefs, which provides opportunities to people of all ages with a range of disabilities to reach their full potential.

She designed a jewelry line for Denovo Diamonds, inspired by her travels, entitled “Global Collection.”
